APRIL 28, 2014 (POINT PLEASANT, NJ) - The Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship fund is pleased to announce that Maria Papadakis of NBC Sports and Comcast SportsNet, Robyn Lane of WRAT-FM and Barbara Farragher of WJRZ-FM will co-emcee its third annual nursing scholarship fundraiser “Rock for the Nurses 2014” being held Sunday June 1st at the Idle Hour Restaurant & Bar in Point Pleasant.
Maria Papadakis is an Emmy award winning media personality, emcee, and spokesperson for multiple organizations throughout the PA, NJ, DE and New York City area.
She is the host of a new Comcast SportsNet entertainment series bringing together her love of sports with her fun personality to a vast audience and has also been recently featured on the NBC Sports Network doing local, special interest features with both the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Flyers.
Maria is also host and producer of “Open House” showcasing the tri-state areas most unique properties, homes, and more.
She started producing and hosting “Out and About” , turning it into a popular lifestyle and entertainment series on Philly.com (the tri-state areas most trafficked website), through which she provides an engaging look into Philadelphia.
Maria also makes on-air contributions for “Good Day” Philadelphia Fox 29, writes the “Papadakis Picks” column for the Philadelphia Inquirer/Philly.com, and is a fixture on the Philadelphia radio circuits.
She also has her own weekly radio segment on top 40 station 95.7 BenFM with Marilyn Russell going over her “picks” and what’s “out and about” in the tri-state area.
Papadakis, who earned a Master’s of Business Administration from Drexel University, appears at “Rock for the Nurses” for the first time.
Rockin’ Robyn Lane will make her third consecutive appearance at The Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship fundraiser in 2014.
“The Rocker” as she is often called, is the current Assistant Program Director, Music Director and midday on-air DJ at Greater Media Radio Station WRAT 95.9FM “The Rat” in Lake Como, Monmouth County, New Jersey.
Robyn, who has been a fixture at WRAT for several years and an on-air favorite, is filled with passion about music and life and always goes out of her way the help the local Jersey Shore community by volunteering at numerous events throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
Her favorite songwriters include Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, Brian Wilson, Daryl Hall and John Oates, Neil Diamond, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Roy Orbison among others and her absolute favorite composition of all time is Rhapsody In Blue.
Robyn previously was a radio personality for Sirius Satellite Radio and received her radio education at Nassau Community College in New York.
Barbara Farragher is the current seven to midnight DJ at 100.1 WJRZ FM in Manahawkin, NJ and has been a part of the Greater Media New Jersey broadcast group for many years
She has also been on-air at WMGQ-FM, WDHA-FM and WRAT-FM.
In addition, Barbara has worked outside the company on WKXW-FM 101.5 and has maintained a successful voice-over business for several years.
Barbara will make her second consecutive appearance as “Rock for the Nurses” this year.
Both the WRAT and WJRZ event and promotion crews will join Robyn and Barbara throughout the afternoon with live broadcasts, interviews and call-ins, various give-a-ways, promotions and games for everyone in attendance.
“Rock for the Nurses 2014” will take place on Sunday, June 1 from 12 noon until 6pm at the Idle Hour Restaurant & Bar located at 2600 Route 88 in Point Pleasant Borough.
The fundraiser will feature live music for six hours throughout the entire afternoon; an all you can eat BBQ buffet and pig roast, tent party, cash bar, coffee and dessert and will also include various raffles, give-a-ways and other special activities during the fundraiser.
Scheduled to perform will be some of the top musicians from around the Jersey Shore including The Matt Noffsinger Band, The Pickles, Two Story Outhouse, Captain Eric and The Shipwrecks, Guns 4 Hire Trio, Ned Ryerson, Tyler Veit and his band Bad Minds and Where’s Judy in addition to some other special musical guests.
All proceeds from the event will benefit The Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund which annually helps the nurses and nursing students of Ocean Medical Center by providing nursing scholarships to nurses and nursing students looking to further their formal education in the nursing profession.
Tickets are $20 per person (kids under 12 are free) and are available for advance purchase at the Idle Hour Restaurant & Bar (Point Pleasant), Bow-Kay Florist (Brick), the Ocean Medical Center (Brick) and on-line at Eventbrite.com. Tickets will also be available for purchase the day of the event at the door.

ABOUT THE BARBARA FORFAR NURSING SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
The Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund was established on January 15, 2011 and is part of the Ocean Medical Center Foundation family of funds.
The fund provides monetary assistance to qualified nurses and nursing students of Ocean Medical Center who desire to continue their formal education in nursing profession in the form of scholarships and awards one (or more) nursing scholarship during September of each year to eligible applicants.
The Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of long-time Point Pleasant resident Barbara Forfar or “Foof” as she was called by her fellow nurses and other colleagues in the operating room, and her forty-four years of dedication to the nursing profession with all but three years of her service associated with the Ocean Medical Center or its predecessor hospitals.
To qualify for the scholarship, the applicant must be an employee or nursing student at Ocean Medical Center and must be enrolled in a RN program, an upper division program (RN to BSN) or advanced degree program (MSN, PhD) in nursing.
All Ocean Medical Center nurses and nursing students from all OMC practice areas are eligible to apply. The scholarship must be used to supplement tuition, fees, lab costs, books or educational supply expenses.
The Barbara Forfar Nursing Scholarship Fund awards one (or more) nursing scholarship during September of each year to eligible applicants.
